The Mayan Calendar

Some years ago I was travelling the Sacred Sites of the world and on my way to the Mayan sites in Mexico, I tried to discover the real meaning behind the Mayan Calendar. At that time many western researchers came to the conclusion that the Mayan Calendar is predicting the 'end of the world'

As with most true treasures of knowledge, I found a little dusty book in a second hand shop in London about a westerner that was on the same quest as I.

On his arrival in the Yucatan Peninsula, he met one of the few Mayan shamans still living today. The shaman took him to live in the forest for several months, because he explained that the Mayan calendar cannot be 'read'.

During this time the man had to learn how to interpret the signs and language of the forest. For example, the harvest of crops was started only when a certain species of bird did a particular pattern of flight.

When the man was deemed ready, the shaman explained that the man must take note of his dreams. For when he see a Mayan sign, he will intuitively know that the meaning of the sign, was captured in his dream.

The Mayan calendar can only be read through dream interpretation.

In America a man by the name of Ian Lungold, was a jewelry maker and was carving the Mayan signs in the shape of pendants.

The meaning of the signs came to him through intuitive dream interpretation. He started investigating the Mayan calendar and came to know it as a calendar for consciousness.

Why did the calendar end? I leave that for another day..
